The village government plays an important role in the task of protecting Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). This is stated in Article 42 of Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, which requires the village government to ensure the eligibility of the labor placement company. And LSD becomes a supporter for the village government.
What the Borok Village government, Sakra Barat District, East Lombok Regency has done is very much in accordance with existing regulations. And all villages in Indonesia should do the same.
Minimizing the negative impacts of Human Trafficking or also known as TPPO (Human Trafficking Crime) is the obligation of all lines. The Borok village government deserves the greatest appreciation for the initial preventive measures it has taken.
adbmi.org - The Borok Tengah village government together with the LSD (Village Social Institution) verified the completeness of the documents of one of the placement companies that will recruit prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) for placement in Taiwan.
In the verification process, it was found that the placement company had a valid placement permit (SIP2MI) and job order (JO). However, the company does not have a branch office in East Lombok Regency (Lotim), but only has an office in Sumbawa.
After coordinating and confirming with the Manpower Office (Disnaker), the Borok Village Government confirmed that the company was official and had a branch office in Sumbawa.
In this regard, the Borok Village Government will grant permission to the placement company to conduct recruitment in Borok Village. However, the village still requests that CPMI record and store evidence of every expense incurred during the placement process.
This is done to maintain transparency and ensure safety and justice for migrant workers who will be sent to Taiwan.
This verification activity is in line with the responsibility of the village government in accordance with Article 42 of Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, which requires the village government to ensure the eligibility of labor placement companies.
In addition, the Borok Village Government also issued several recommendations to improve protection for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI):
Socialization and Education: Conducting routine socialization and education to the community about the rights and obligations of migrant workers, as well as the risks and benefits of working abroad.
Mentoring and Training: Providing mentoring and training for CPMI to ensure they have the necessary skills and understand the procedures and documents that must be prepared.
Improved Coordination: Improve coordination with the Department of Manpower, placement agencies, and other agencies related to the protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers to ensure that the information provided to Indonesian Migrant Workers is accurate and reliable.
Information and Service Center: Utilizing the existing SID (Village Information System). Developing an information and service center for PMI in the village, which can provide assistance and consultation related to placement, complaints, and other problems faced by PMI.
Document Storage: Encourage CPMI to store all evidence and important documents related to their placement, and report any obstacles encountered to the village government or relevant agencies.
This action was taken with the aim of protecting the interests of CPMI and ensuring that the placement process is carried out in accordance with applicable regulations and laws. The Borok village government hopes that all parties can work together to create a safe and secure workforce placement process.
